About the Teachers

Kory Curcio:

Lisa Ferraris: I have been teaching for 22 years, 17 of those years right here at Fischer! I have been an ELL resource specialist in the intermediate grades, have taught 5th grade for several years, and have served as the ELL Resource Coach working with staff and students in grades K-5. It has always been a passion of mine to work with language learners, and have had the opportunity to work with students and staff of diverse language backgrounds throughout my career. It has always amazed me how much students grow and learn over time. I'm especially proud when students come back to visit and share their success stories! I'm looking forward to working with you and your children this year!

Amanda Leiber:  I am very excited to be a new member of the District 205 community!  This is my second year of teaching, and my first year in Elmhurst.  I am a graduate of Illinois State University where I majored in Bilingual Elementary Education with minors in Spanish and ESL.  I split my time between Fischer and Emerson Elementary School, so I spend my mornings at Fischer and my afternoons at Emerson.  I am looking forward to working with Fischer students this year, and being able to help them as they learn and grow!

Julia Nichols: I live in Chicago, Illinois, and I graduated from Oberlin College with a degree in Sociology and Spanish. I then went on to obtain my Masters in Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a concentration in Bilingual Education and ELL. I've taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 4th Grade in self-contained bilingual classrooms, as well as teaching Spanish as a second language in elementary and middle schools. This is my 4th year as an ELL Specialist, having spent the past three years teaching at Emerson Elementary. I love teaching students to be successful in their language skills. I look forward to a great year of guiding your child as a reader, writer, speaker and listener of language.

Sybil Siska: I'm excited to say this is my 4th year at Fischer!  My 9th year of teaching, I have taught both here in the states as well as English as a Second Language in the south of Spain.  A graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, I hold my bilingual, Spanish, and ESL teaching certifications.  I am excited to continue to watch the students grow and learn this year!  Please visit my personal website for Spanish and English resources.
